TOWER BUILT BY TISHMAN SPEYER IN PARIS LA DEFENSE: REAL ESTATE SYMBOL OF THE AMERICAN
PRESENCE IN EUROPE Across
Europe, Tishman Speyer has completed over 125,000 sqm of leasing during 2006,
including among the largest leases in Frankfurt, Milan, Amsterdam, Hamburg and
Paris. Tishman Speyer was selected by EPAD, the La Défense Development Agency,
to develop a landmark tower complying with international standards
on this highly visible site. A competition for international architects was | KEY

by Tishman Speyer and the internationally known firm, Kohn Pedersen Fox, was awarded
the project. The result is a dramatic and elegant design that complements the
site and will be a landmark in La Défense. Situated in the middle of La Défense,
Tour CBX (The CBX Tower) benefits from the outstanding environment of this great
business district; economic attractiveness, nearby transport and services infrastructures,
leisure and shopping areas integrated into the urban context. Tour CBX was completed
in September 2005 and is considered the region’s most exciting prime office building,
receiving the prestigious Pierre d’Or development of the year award. The quality
of the development was a key factor in Dexia Crédit Local, the French-Belgian
banking group, deciding to buy the building in December 2005. Tour CBX will serve
as their regional headquarters.
SMART
BUILDING FOR MERCKS SERONO HEADQUARTER IN GENEVA, BUILT BY STEINER TSC This
is one of the region's most important building sites, along with those for Rolex
and the famous Pictet private bank has been completed. It represents an investment
of approximately CHF 330 million for 58,000 square metres of surface area. The
new complex includes Serono's global headquarters (in two separate buildings),
a research laboratory, a structure for clinical testing, an auditorium, a fitness
centre and a child care centre. Part of the construction work involves renovating
the existing buildings on the old Sécheron industrial site.
There remains room for expansion according to the future needs of the group. The
construction site extends beyond the future headquarter's perimeter and all the
way down to the lake, so as to implement the selected temperature control system
for heating and cooling. Work
is completed on building a pumping station and installing a conduit from the site
to the lake. The
lake water's energy differential will then be used to maintain building temperatures
between 20 and 26 degrees, winter and summer.
THE
RION ANTIRION BRIDGE,THE LONGER OF THE WORLD BUILT BY VINCY GRANDS TRAVAUX : A
CHALLENGE AGAINST SEISMIC ACTIVITY
This
unique Art Work is situated in an area of high seismic activity, with the two
ends of the bridge founded on different tectonic plates, resulting in a relative
movement of almost 2cm per year. The principal supports stand in up to 65m of
water, and the main pier foundations (cast in a dry dock on-site before being
floated to an adjacent area of deep water for completion) measure 90m in diameter.
The
pier bases too were constructed on-site, before being floated into position in
the Gulf, and lowered onto the seabed using water as ballast. The four main pylons,
to which the deck sections attached, were built in concrete, using climbing shutters,
and reach 164m above sea level. Almost 20,000 tonnes of English structural steel
was shipped over for assembly into 12.5 metre-long sections for the main bridge
deck. The
three central spans measure 560m each and the two side spans, 286m. After casting
of the concrete decks onto the steel deck sections, each completed 300 tonne unit
was lifted into position between the pylons by a 1,200 tonne capacity floating
crane. Each deck section is supported by two cable stays, anchored at the top
in the steel and concrete pylon head. The 1km long Rion viaduct is also constructed
of composite steel and concrete, while the shorter Antirion viaduct is concrete/deck
slab on pre-stressed concrete beams. The whole project has been completed almost
five months inside the five year programme and within budget.
